What if I need a mental health or substance abuse appointment?
 
 

A referral from your primary care provider is not necessary for mental health or substance abuse services. You can contact Magellan Behavioral Health, GHI HMO's administrator for these services, directly for assistance and/or appointments. You can reach Magellan Behavioral Health by calling 1-800-836-2256.

GHI HMO partners with Magellan Behavioral Health to manage your mental health and substance abuse benefits, and give you the best possible care. The Magellan Web site, MagellanHealth.com, is tailored to meet the specific needs of members by providing valuable tools and resources to help with life's challenges and opportunities.

To access the Magellan member Web site, go to www.MagellanHealth.com and click on I'm a Member and sign in. For new users, click on New or Unregistered User, and enter the toll-free Magellan phone number listed on your GHI HMO ID card and then create a username and password.

By signing in as a member at MagellanHealth.com, you'll be able to:
  • Access benefits and services information for behavioral health, such as coordination of care, quality improvement program activities and results
  • Find a provider
  • Use the self-assessment tool
  • Access health and wellness calculators
  • Find child and elder care and community resources
  • Learn about prevention programs

What do I do in an emergency?
 
 

In the event of an emergency, you should seek immediate medical treatment at the nearest emergency facility whether or not they participate with GHI HMO. You do not need prior approval from GHI HMO or your primary care provider to receive emergency treatment. You or a family member should contact your primary care provider within 48 hours or as soon as possible after the emergency occurrence.

What if I am out of the GHI HMO service area and need emergency care?
 
 

With GHI HMO you have worldwide emergency health care coverage. You do not need prior approval from GHI HMO or your primary care provider to receive emergency treatment. You or a family member should contact your primary care provider within 48 hours or as soon as possible after the emergency occurrence.

Can I keep GHI HMO if I leave my present job?
 
 

In most cases you will be able to keep your GHI HMO coverage. Many companies offer GHI HMO, so you'll be able to keep GHI HMO if you change jobs. Even if you lose your GHI HMO group coverage, there are other ways to continue your GHI HMO medical benefits such as COBRA. Call GHI HMO customer service at 877-244-4466 and your options will be explained to you.
